Hiking time: approx. 1 hour
Difficulty: easy to moderate
From Villa Nosal: 250 m
Nosal is the closest Tatra peak to Zakopane and one of the best choices for your first day in the mountains. The hike is short, yet the views from the summit are truly impressive. Villa Nosal is as close as it gets, with the slopes of Nosal beginning just 250 metres from our doorstep.
Why choose Nosal?
At 1206 metres above sea level, Nosal may seem modest compared to the giants of the Tatra Mountains, but it offers an excellent viewpoint.
- the perfect first hike in the Tatras,
- a great choice for families,
- an outstanding viewpoint,
- a short excursion without an all-day effort.
It is an excellent option if you only have half a day, want to warm up before tackling longer trails, or plan to hike with older children. While a few sections are steeper, reaching the summit is highly rewarding.
How to hike Nosal
The most popular route starts in Kuźnice, located about 1.2 kilometres from Villa Nosal. The trail leads through the Nosal Nature Reserve, first through the forest and then steadily uphill to the summit.
- Walk to Kuźnice
- Forest trail
- Steeper ascent near the summit
- Panoramic views of the Tatras and Zakopane
Although the hike is short, it can be demanding because much of the elevation gain is covered over a relatively short distance. Under normal conditions, the ascent takes about one hour.
Stay on the marked trail throughout the hike. Nosal is located within a protected nature reserve, so leaving the designated path is prohibited.
What will you see from the summit?
The summit offers sweeping views of Zakopane and the surrounding Tatra ridges. On a clear day, you can see Giewont, the Czerwone Wierchy range and the area around Kasprowy Wierch.
• Giewont
• Czerwone Wierchy
• Kasprowy Wierch
• Panorama of Zakopane
How much time do you need and who is it for?
Allow around three hours for a relaxed hike, time at the summit and the descent. In summer, the trail is suitable for most people with average fitness levels, including families with older children.
During winter and early spring, icy sections are common and the trail becomes more demanding. Proper hiking footwear is essential, and traction cleats are often recommended.
Before you go
- Wear shoes with good grip.
- Bring water.
- Check the weather forecast.
- During the high season, it is best to start early in the morning.
- In winter, do not hike without proper footwear and traction cleats.
